Music Déja Vu

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to any new music. I spent the past few months re-watching TV series on DVD while driving to work in my car. Namely Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Sex and the City. Most of you might consider those shows to be very chick-flickish, but I know a few guys (straight) who actually enjoy watching them as well, no kidding! Honestly.. these shows give you very insightful information about women… maybe some of you guys could use a few pointers. :-P (Feel free to borrow my copies anytime… don’t be embarrassed!)

Anyhoo, back to the main topic… lots of new music out there. I’m currently infatuated with Ne-Yo’s “Miss Independent” and Chris Brown’s “Forever”… I love it when men sing about how much they appreciate us! :-)

A couple of recent songs remind me of other songs from way back when. All songs are great - old and new:

  1. “Take A Bow” by Rihanna (2008) :: “Take A Bow” by Madonna (1994)
  2. “If I Were A Boy” by Beyoncé (2008) :: “Like A Boy” by Ciara (2006)

A mini-shout out to Phuong - her favorite song of the moment: “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga ft. Akon

A few months ago I blogged about how whack Lil Wayne was at the Virgin Mobile Festival… but after listening to his album many times, he’s actually growing on me. I can see how he sold over 1 million his first week. The Carter III - Highly Recommended. My favorite track is “Mr. Carter (ft. Jay-Z)”. Wish I had heard his album before seeing him in concert.. I probably would’ve enjoyed it a lot more.

Well that’s enough music news from me. By the way, for those who are wondering when my next LT Karaoke disk will be coming out… don’t hold your breath. It’s gonna be a while, if ever.

The Roof is on Fire!

Okay, not mine.. but several hundreds of others.

I woke up very early Saturday to run a few errands down in OC. On my way there, we passed by a series of hills that were on fire and about to engulf a few homes. This caused some minor traffic because they had to close down 2 lanes and an exit. The sky at this point was very dark and smokey.

As we approached OC, the sky cleared up and was bright blue. However, when we got to Little Saigon / Bolsa area, the smoke had made its way thru and the sky was beginning to darken. Check this out - we were stopped at a red light on the intersection of Phuoc Loc Tho mall and A Dong Supermarket shopping center.

Here’s a picture of Phuoc Loc Tho (facing South):

Here’s a picture of Bolsa Ave. (facing East):

And here’s a picture of the A Dong Supermarket shopping center (facing North):

After we were done with our errands, we started heading back home on the 91 but halfway there, police had closed off the entire freeway and forced everyone to turn around. It was completely chaotic..cars were making U-turns in the middle of the freeway on the same side and going up on-ramps facing the other direction.. People in the express lanes had to make U-turns thru a small opening to get to the other side of the freeway… and the 57 was closed so it made it harder for us to get home.. so we just went up the 405 and hung out in LA for a couple of hours.

The cause of these fires have not been determined yet, but it’s probably related to cigarettes. I hate it when people throw their cigarettes out the window on a freeway. That’s so irresponsible and stupid. Grr.

Anyways, later that night we met up with a few others to attend a OneRepublic concert. Augustana was one of the opening acts and I must say they were a lot better than the headliner.

Afterwards, we had a late night dinner at Palm Thai restaurant on Hollywood. This restaurant is very popular in Los Angeles, and their food is probably THE best Thai food I’ve ever had anywhere hands down. That’s a very bold claim - Highly Recommended! And it’s even better (but more crowded), if you go between 7-10 on a weekend night because there’s a live performer singing old love songs - sometimes it’s a Thai Elvis impersonator which is pretty amusing. :-P

But anyhow, I’m OK. My house is OK. Thanks to everyone who called and texted. Nice to know people actually care about me. I feel loved. :-)

TVrama

I’ve been doing a lot of research lately to see if switching to a different TV service would save me a little bit of moolah each month and the verdict was… Nope! Right now I pay less than $100/mo. with AT&T U-verse TV + Internet. For that price I get 4 digital receivers, 200+ channels, HD programming, DVR (record up to 4 at a time), DVR playback on all receivers, and many other neat things. Not to mention the free Wi-Fi access at any AT&T hotspot, which includes most Starbucks! We had a few issues with the feed for a while but I got it fixed a few weeks ago (bad cabling outside). My roomies say they like Dish Network better, but I have to disagree. For the price and features, I highly recommend AT&T U-Verse.

For a while, I thought the Analog to Digital switch in February ‘09 wouldn’t affect me, but I just remembered the DVD player in my car also has a TV tuner… so I guess I won’t be able to watch TV while I’m driving anymore. :-P (maybe that’s a good thing?)

The only TV shows I’ve been watching this season are Survivor: Gabon (Go Kenny!!), Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty. Everything else has become so blah~ I can’t wait for Lost to come back next year!

GObama!

I am proud to say that I voted for the first time ever in this year’s 2008 presidential election! Our polling location was at someone’s residence down the street from my house so we just walked there. I opted for the electronic voting machine which only took a few minutes to complete.

A few weeks ago we watched Head of State, starring Chris Rock, on TV. It’s pretty funny and seemingly familiar to this year’s election - highly recommended!

I filled up my Honda Accord for under $40 today (wow!). Will gas prices stay low as long as we are in an economical crisis? I’m so conflicted! *sigh*
