Wishing all my stalkers blog followers a happy and prosperous new year!
I started out the new year by watching a few movies:
Slumdog Millionaire
After watching the SAG Awards, we decided to check this out to see what the hype was all about. Turned out to be a real gem. Highly highly recommended! It’s a movie for everyone…romance, comedy, tragedy, violence, etc….
Yes! Man
Typical Jim Carrey movie…has its ups and downs, but entertaining overall.

I’m very confused about what day / weekend Tet is supposed to be this year. Someone please help me figure this out!
I just realized how generic my 2009 New Year’s Resolutions were. I think I listed the same things from the past years. Which means I haven’t lived up to any of them… :-\
Camera fund update: $0.00 I guess my 2 fans don’t care.
Well, at least I tried!

Jan 09 Vegas Trip + Wynn Encore Complaint
Jan 12th
Wowie… looks like my Shoutbox got hacked while I was away this past weekend. Maybe I should bring the old one back?
Went to Vegas with a bunch of good buddies last weekend.
We drove up Friday night and checked into Harrah’s at around midnight. Got ready and went to Ghostbar at the Palm’s. Us girls were able to get in free without standing in line, but the boys were late so they stayed in line and paid $25/head. Ouch! If we had known we wouldn’t have went because the lounge was very small and there weren’t that many people there. But I guess it’s not about where you’re at..it’s who you’re with. We ended up having a pretty good time anyways. We were dancing our butts off all the way til closing time which was about 4am.
Afterwards, the girls stayed up talking and walking around til about 7am. Went back to the hotel and tried to sleep but couldn’t so we went to play some Poker at Caesar’s. I entered myself into the 9am $65 tournament. Only 19 people entered so I didn’t think it would take long, but it ended up taking 3 hours! Upon entering, I really didn’t think I would make it very far, but I guess lady luck was on my side because I won 1st place ($475)!
I met up with the girls and drove over to the Wynn Encore hotel to check in for Saturday night. Then we went to a local nail shop and got ourselves some manicures and pedicures. We like to pamper ourselves when we’re in Vegas.
Met up with the boys later that night for dinner at Capital Seafood in Chinatown.
Played some cash games at the Wynn’s poker room but lost.
The players there are very serious and boring. No one likes to chit chat, not even the dealers. I think that really messed up my poker mood. So I made everyone go to Caesar’s Palace with me (thanks guys!). We made it just in time for the midnight $65 tournament. This time there were 50 players, including 2 of my friends. Again, I didn’t think I would make it very far… but I guess lady luck must love me because I won 1st place again ($750)! Or maybe… I’m actually a pretty good poker player?
Well, at least I know what to do if I ever lose my job. *knock on wood*
The next morning we had Sunday brunch at the Wynn. Went to the CES show after but that was lame-O.
Now I’m back, and exhausted as hell from not sleeping 2 days straight… sigh…
We had lots of good pictures from all three days, but unfortunately one of the boys lost his digital camera so they are gone For-ev-ev-ev Forever…
I’m currently accepting donations for a replacement camera. Please send all money to my PayPal account lynda_tran@hotmail.com
(Ok, that’s probably not going to work, but it’s worth a shot right? I feel really bad for the guy! I’m in for $50.)

What’s a new year without a complaint from yours truly? Check out my latest complaint letter… this one is addressed to the Wynn Encore Hotel in Las Vegas:
Dear Encore Wynn Hotel,
My experience at the new Encore Wynn Hotel this past weekend was a bit disappointing.
I booked a room at Encore weeks in advance and was quite anxious to be staying at a Wynn hotel for the very first time. People have told me such great things about the Wynn, but my stay was very contradicting to those testimonies.
While checking in at the lobby, I was informed that my request for 2 double beds could not be accommodated. I was asked if I wanted a King + Rollaway instead, or to come back later and see if something opens up. However, the 2 beds requested wouldn’t be guaranteed. After discussing with my friend, we kindly accepted the King + Rollaway option.
We dropped off our bags in our room and left the hotel for a while. The rollaway bed that was promised to us was not there when we came back (3am) so we called Housekeeping. Housekeeping said that they needed to verify with the front desk whether we were qualified for a rollaway or not - this took 30 minutes. And then it took another 30 minutes for them to deliver it. So we weren’t able to go to bed until well after 4am.
The next morning, we checked out at the Concierge and told the front desk about our experience. She courteously suggested that we speak with the Hotel Manager and ensured that we would receive some type of comp. So we walked over to the hotel lobby and asked to speak with the Hotel Manager whose name was Kyle Thomas. We told him about what happened and about how we were concerned that this might happen to other customers, but all he said was that he was “deeply sorry” and that it would never happen again. He didn’t even ask for us to come back again in the future. And the comp that the Concierge said would be given to us didn’t happen. I’ve stayed at all the other 4 and 5 star hotels on the strip and I know for sure that they would’ve reacted to this situation differently.
I left the Encore feeling very disappointed. A new high end hotel should do everything in their power to keep the customers happy. Unhappy customers, such as myself, will result in negative reviews and bad word of mouth.
I filled out a feedback form and mailed it out already. I am reemphasizing my comments in this email just in case the form doesn’t reach its destination.
New Year 2009
Jan 2nd
I was summoned to jury duty on the morning New Year’s Eve. Quite a contrast from last year’s eve when I got a speeding ticket in Cowrona.
Good news is I didn’t get picked as a sworn juror. My duty has been completed for the year. w00t!
Our last meal of the year was dinner at Mirada Restaurant in Fountain Valley. IMO this place has THE best canh chua in OC, hands down! Their Ca Kho To and Fried Tofu are pretty tasty too.
Here’s a pic of me, Vic, Denisse, and my bodyguard Don celebrating the New Year.
New Year’s Resolutions:
- Run / Excercise at least twice a week
- Eat healthier
- Stay in touch with people I care about… and people who care about me! Which is a very short list, thank goodness!
