New Camera, New Lens, New Location

For my birthday Turbo got me a brand spanking new camera – the Canon 5D Mark III. I’m so mad at myself for not going big for my first camera. The 70D’s quality is poor compared to this monster. And then for our 1st year anniversary he got me a Canon Telephoto 2.8 IS II USM lens which I’ve been eying for a long time. That baby takes super quick and sharp pictures! My photography has definitely improved thanks to these new items.

We winged it in downtown LA a couple weeks ago and chose the Disney Hall exterior for some product shots. I barely edited any of these photos. It’s really hard to capture bad photos at this location. The architecture and lighting are amazing.

Then we headed over to the warehouse area and found a rooftop for some shots. We stumbled upon a spot exclusively meant for photo shoots and movies, and the guy said we could probably use it for free anytime! Woot~

I don’t know why, but all my guy friends like this shot below. I thought she was posed awkwardly, but I guess the best photos are supposed to be awkward? Shrug.

WSOP 2015 Summer

Boy, this year’s WSOP flew by so quickly! We were in Vegas from end of May all the way to mid-July, with a few weekend breaks here and there. It was a fun ride, but nothing beats being home.

We arrived with high hopes, like every other year. Thanks to my buddies and the hubby, I was able to play the 10K Main Event for the very first time in my life. Although we didn’t make any money, it was great experience and I can’t wait for the next one!

Work piled in during June and July, so I didn’t get to play as much poker as I wanted to. I played the Colossus, Monsterstack, Millionaire Maker, Little 1 Drop, and Lucky 777. I doubled my stack within the first 1-2 levels every time, but things would go downhill after. I have yet to ‘run good’ in any event, but hopefully my time will come.

Big shoutout to Nipun Java for finishing 2nd in the $3K PLO event. We had a small piece, so it was a pretty good sweat. Our railbirding results are quite phenomenal, ask anyone!

Last year, I went to EDC and told myself I would never EVER go again. But FOMO hit me hard and I ended up breaking that promise… it helped that the tickets were free and our friends had table service. 🙂 (Photo below by @handrogyny)

I am no angel, and I have experimented with this and that in the past. These past couple of years, I have somehow developed a natural high for life and I do not need alcohol or drugs to make me feel happy. I wake up every morning excited to make things happen, and fall asleep every night feeling accomplished. So much of my life was spent in darkness, that being in the light now is such a relief. I hope to spread this positive energy to all those around me. It’s an indescribable feeling, but I’ll try my best to put it into words (ask me when you see me!).

The last girl cousin of my OG crew finally got hitched. Congrats to Tiff and Thysy! It was an honor being a part of your special day.

The hubby spoiled me this year and got me a Canon 5D Mark III for my birthday. For months, I was struggling with the quality of my photos which were taken from the 70D. The 5D camera makes such a HUGE difference. Just look at these shots below. I’m pretty late in the photography game but I feel like I’m getting better and better with every session. It takes people years to master this art, and I’m trying to master it in a matter of months. Can’t expect to be great right away, and like I always say… practice makes perfect!

LysaThuy: Fashion and Lifestyle Blog

Back in college, I had a group of friends who shared a similar interest for The Simpsons. They often compared me to the Lisa Simpson character because she was nerdy and boring. Obviously, my name is Lynda with a “Y”, but to be funny they would literally call me “Lysa with a Y”. I always thought it was silly because NOBODY spells their name Lisa with a Y! Fast forward many years later, I meet Lysa… with a Y. Coincidence? Maybe. But I’m a firm believer of things happening for a reason!

A couple months ago, I approached Lysa with an idea for starting a fashion blog based on her Instagram activity. Through getting to know her, I found out she’s also an excellent cook. We have so many ideas brewing and just can’t wait to share it with everyone!

Here is our first production: LysaThuy – Fashion and Lifestyle Blog ( She will be highlighting her fashion, cooking, skin care among other things. My photography will also be featured on her site from time to time. Check it out and let us know what you think! Make sure to follow Lysa on Instagram, if you haven’t done so already – @lysathuy

Quick photoshoot at Huntington Beach pier with Lysa and my Canon 70D. Loving the reflections on the sand. I have a feeling we are going to make a pretty good team!

Engagement Photo Session: Anthony & Kathy

Big thanks to Anthony and Kathy for letting me photograph them for a practice engagement photo session. (Disclaimer: These are not their official engagement photos!) This whole photography thing is a learning process and I feel like I still have so much to learn.

We set up a little picnic area at Yorba Regional Park. Here is the lovely couple drinking some wine.

Anthony couldn’t keep his eyes open for this shot. Doh!

This was the first time I experienced the “Golden Hour” of photography.

Look at all the pretty warm sun light behind the trees.

A close up of our picnic setup.

Any Day Now…

It has been less than 3 weeks and is now back on page 1 for “Lynda Tran” search keyword – #4 spot to be exact. Mobile result is even better, which is #3 due to Google’s recently updated algorithm. Any day now we will be back at #1!

Cancun Beach Bachelorette

Last weekend, we celebrated my cousin’s bachelorette party in Cancun. We stayed in a nice villa at Omni Cancun All-Inclusive Hotel. There were many more fun photos I wish I could post, but you know what they say… What Happens in Cancun, Stays in Cancun! 😛

An obligatory jumping photo. This is a screenshot from a video capture since we couldn’t get the timing right for still shots.

The water in Cancun is so blue. I can only imagine how much more blue it would be at other destinations.

Kissing the Miss Goodbye!

A few days before we flew in, I went downtown and got some pretty fabric for our photo shoot.

My cousins make such great models!

Google Search SEO Update for I moved up 9 spots since last week. Almost back on Page 1. Slowly, but surely!

Portrait Sessions at Mile Square Park

This was the first time I really ever used a DSLR camera. I stopped by Samy’s Camera and picked up a Sigma 24-70mm lens right before I got to the park. My friends Tommy and Pat were also there testing out their own gear and helping with lighting issues. We didn’t get it quite right, but it wasn’t bad for our first try.

My lens was fixed on Auto Focus the entire time and I wasn’t familiar with all the settings yet, but somehow I still managed to get a few decent shots. Here are some of my favorites:

Julie is all about floral crowns.

Found this interesting tunnel in the middle of the park. It made for a pretty cool backlight effect.

We invited our friends to come out for some family portrait shots…

In case you’re wondering, YES – the two girls are twins. Not only are they gorgeous, but also very smart and business savvy. Check out their online clothing store

Thu “Thunder” Nguyen and his lovely wife Christine

Isn’t this one great looking family?

Google Me

I don’t usually Google myself, but I’ve been doing a lot of SEO work lately and was curious how I now rank compared to other Lynda Trans of the world… especially after this new ranking system Google has implemented.

When I search for “Lynda Tran”, the second result is my Twitter account @lyndatran, and below are a few of my Google Plus galleries. On Page 2, there are a few Poker related articles and at the VERY bottom #20 is my website 🙁 In the realm of websites and SEO, this is VERY embarrassing. If I own, I should be #1 on Page 1. No one cares about #2!

And that is why I have relaunched my website,, for the millionth time. I must dedicate to blogging a lot more often in order to keep the content fresh and my Google ranking up.

Let’s see how long it takes for me to get back to #1… stay tuned!

The Wedding of Lynda and Turbo

Finally got around to editing our full-length wedding video. It can be viewed here:

After completion, I realized not many people watch DVDs anymore, so I provided an online hosting solution for the video. This also allows family and friends to watch without having a physical DVD.

Send me a message if you want to create something similar for your wedding video. (Note: All music used would have to be properly licensed.)
